Laser Tattoo Removal

Our advanced Laser Tattoo Removal treatments use Q-Switched laser technology to safely and effectively target unwanted tattoos. The laser delivers high-intensity pulses of energy into the tattoo ink, breaking the pigment into tiny particles that are naturally eliminated by the body's lymphatic system over time.

Q-Switched technology can treat a wide range of tattoo colours while minimising damage to the surrounding skin. Each treatment gradually fades the tattoo, with the number of sessions required depending on factors such as the tattoo's size, colour, age, depth, location, and layering.

During your consultation, we will assess your tattoo and create a personalised treatment plan to achieve the best possible outcome. Whether your goal is complete removal or lightening for a cover-up tattoo, we are here to guide you through the process safely and professionally.

How to Prepare for Your Laser Tattoo Removal Treatment

To ensure the safest treatment and best possible results, please follow these guidelines before your appointment:

  • Avoid excessive sun exposure, tanning, and fake tan on the treatment area for at least 2 weeks prior to your appointment.

  • Keep the skin healthy and well hydrated in the days leading up to treatment.

  • Do not wax, peel, or use harsh exfoliants on the treatment area for 1 week before treatment.

  • Shave the area if necessary 24 hours before your appointment (unless advised otherwise).

  • Avoid applying creams, lotions, oils, perfumes, or makeup to the treatment area on the day of treatment.

  • Stay well hydrated and eat a meal before your appointment.

  • Inform your clinician of any medications, recent medical treatments, skin conditions, or changes to your health.

  • If you are prone to cold sores and the tattoo is located near the mouth, please let us know prior to treatment.

What to Expect

Laser tattoo removal can cause some discomfort, often described as a snapping sensation against the skin. Following treatment, redness, swelling, frosting (a temporary whitening of the skin), and mild tenderness are normal and usually settle within a few days.

Multiple treatments are required, with sessions typically spaced 6–8 weeks apart to allow your body time to naturally clear the fragmented ink particles and achieve optimal results.

Contraindications for Laser Tattoo Removal

Laser tattoo removal may not be suitable if you:

  • Are pregnant or breastfeeding.

  • Have an active skin infection, rash, wound, or dermatitis in the treatment area.

  • Have recently tanned skin, sunburn, or fake tan in the treatment area.

  • Are taking photosensitising medications (certain antibiotics, acne medications, or other medications that increase sensitivity to light).

  • Have a history of poor wound healing, keloid scarring, or hypertrophic scarring.

  • Have certain medical conditions that may affect healing or immune function.

  • Have uncontrolled diabetes.

  • Have a history of epilepsy triggered by flashing lights.

  • Have a current skin cancer or suspicious lesion in the treatment area.

  • Are currently unwell with a fever or active infection.

  • Have undergone recent cosmetic treatments in the area and have not allowed sufficient healing time.

Important Information

A thorough consultation and medical history review will be completed prior to treatment to ensure laser tattoo removal is safe and appropriate for you. If any contraindications are identified, treatment may be postponed or a medical clearance may be required.

Individual suitability will be assessed during your consultation.

Laser Tattoo Removal Aftercare

Immediately following your treatment, a soothing post-treatment cream will be applied and the area will be dressed to protect the skin and support healing.

For the First 24–48 Hours

  • Keep the dressing clean, dry, and intact as advised by your clinician.

  • Avoid excessive heat, hot showers, saunas, spas, and vigorous exercise.

  • Do not pick, scratch, or rub the treated area.

  • Mild redness, swelling, tenderness, blistering, or itching can occur and is a normal part of the healing process.

Ongoing Care

  • Once the dressing has been removed, apply Bepanthen® or a similar gentle healing cream 2–3 times daily until the skin has fully healed.

  • Keep the area clean and dry.

  • Avoid swimming pools, spas, and ocean swimming until the skin has completely healed.

  • Do not pick at any scabs or blisters, as this can increase the risk of infection and scarring.

  • Protect the area from sun exposure and apply SPF 50+ once the skin has healed.

Between Treatments

  • Stay well hydrated to support your body's natural removal of the fragmented ink particles.

  • Allow at least 6–8 weeks between treatments unless otherwise advised by your clinician.

If you experience excessive swelling, signs of infection, increasing pain, or have any concerns during the healing process, please contact the clinic for advice.

Healing responses vary between individuals, and following your aftercare instructions is essential for achieving the best possible results.
